Breath of Fire 6 : Guardians of the White Dragon

Like a nervous parent rushing to the pet store to replace your dead dog before you get home from school, Capcom just announced that the Breath of Fire series isn't dead!  Look, here's Breath of Fire 6, the new online game for PC, tablet, and smartphone.  Sure, it looks a little different, and doesn't play like it used to, but the article claims that it will have some of the same systems as previous games in the series!  One of the photos not showing Dragon Quest monsters and Vanillaware characters even has a guy who potentially will transform into a dragon!

Maybe when there is more detail on what the hell this thing actually is, we'll start to learn to love it just as much as our old dog in time for the game to go live in summer of 2014!

I'm cautiously optimistic. Now if Konami would just get off their asses and make me another Suikoden.

Asking that gets us Tierkreis, Kyle.

Hang on, there was a Suikoden game in Japan last year for PSP. Suikoden Time Travelin' Adventure Jamboree A much better result than Capcom's MapleStory - May or May Not Have a Fairy Village Edition.

There's a rant in the back of my head that is basically "the only JRPG to survive in-tact is fucking Tales", but oh my goodness I'm so lazy.

I almost take that back. Shin Megami Tensei is still alive, and so is Fire Emblem. Part of that fictional rant surmises that the JRPG lives on in the SRPG, which isn't exactly wrong. It allows for Disgaea and Tactics Ogre and such to still survive.

But for a god damned walk to a town and talk to townsfolk and get a quest and then randomly fight in a dungeon JRPG business, it's more or less down to Tales as far as long-running series go.

What about Dragon Quest? IX was really good. I expect they will continue that path with X?

You talking about Dragon Quest X the MMO? Not sure that counts any more.
