while the skit was funny, it pisses me off to know end that blue oyster cult has essentially become a joke as a band because of it. Too many people know nothing about the band, outside of that skit, and it sickens me.
I think people who know only that Blue Oyster Cult needs more cowbell are not people who would be very likely to enjoy the band outside of that context.
It actually is Azumanga. There's some episode later on where they go to Chio's vacation home and Osaka bangs on a pot for some reason. Waking people up? Warding off evil spirits? I don't remember.
