Diablo III - The Monk

Yesterday at Blizzcon Blizzard previewed the newest Diablo II class: The Monk. The Monk seems to be replacing the paladin as the non-tank fighter. From the Kotaku.com post:
They went over some Monk skills, like the Way of the Hundred Fists. The power features three clicks of the same power that transitions from a single attack to a massive AOE. Then there's Crippling Wave, which first slows the enemy, then reduces damage to the Monk. Each skill seems to have different stages. In Exploding Palm, the first and second hits do damage, the 3rd adds a damage-over-time effect, and, if the enemy dies by this DOT, it explodes.

The powers can be combined....so stage one of one power can be switched to stage two of the next and stage three of the next. The different combinations should make for many unique strategies.

Dii.net (formerly diabloii.net) has a good summery of the monk).

Here is the trailer

  3. I bet when they record these videos they have to remind the guy playing not to hold down ALT and pick up loots.

  4. It looks like the Martial Arts assassin done right, which I find awesome. The concept is awesome but being forced to maintain two separate skills available to be able to consistently use the finisher sucked ass. Making the finisher automatic? Fucking awesome.

  5. Kyle, I agree. All the press seem to point to this being a class they are aiming at more advanced players. Which is an interesting concept.

Also, I read that not all classes will use mana. Barbarians, for instance, will build up a "fury" meter to use skills.
