Gaiax Ending

Apparently it is a term which has an established definition.

    Also, I didn't think Contact had such an unsatisfying ending (see: pulling a Contact). I may need to re-watch it to verify, but I was under the impression that the point was to make a situation in which scientists, despite their efforts, would need faith to accept the results of their work. After they set up that situation, they let the characters react to it, and then turn the question on the viewer to make us examine what it is that we believe.

  2. I suppose it comes down to whether you think they ask the question creatively or not in these movies where questions are asked with no answers given.

  3. My knowledge of Gainax Endings is Evangelion and His and Her Circumstances.

    I think His and Her Circumstances didn't actually end. They just stopped showing episodes. And wasn't the last episode a recap episode?
