  1. You can't prove that the earth isn't 6,000 years old.

  4. "You can't prove that the earth isn't 6,000 years old."

Technically you are correct, but we have proven aging methods, and using these methods we have aged many an object far beyond 6,000 years.

  5. We do have proven aging methods. We can carbon date things.

But one of the flaws with the carbon dating argument is that it assumes that an object could not have been created in such a way 6,000 years ago to have had the properties which would make carbon dating think it was 5 million years ago.

I think it is entirely sensible, when making the divine creator argument, to argue that 6,000 years ago God spoke existence into existence with dinosaur bones and a partially completed Grand Canyon.

By the same argument one could argue that God spoke existence into existence 30 seconds ago and created an elaborate blog archive to trick us, placed these memories of past events in our mind to trick us.

Once we open the door to "god did it" there's really no way to stop it. And the whole carbon dating argument fails to acknowledge that.

  6. I know and that is why I said technically you are correct. But, in my mind, it requires one to take a truly absurd standpoint to accept such a notion.

  7. 2:15 PM - bailout has failed. We are fucked.

  8. I don't think so. I think I would rather that we not bail anyone out. We as a country are broke beyond compare, and what do we do in response? We spend even more money we don't have. I say let capitalism do what capitalism does and recover on its own.

  9. Jolly- Carbon Dating only goes back accurately 100,000 - 150,000 years with a maximum of 500,000 years at the expense of accuracy.
To go back farther you need potassium/argon dating, or uranium/lead dating.

  15. As of yet I have no evidence to suggest that anyone in this fucking state DOES NOT CHEW WITH THEIR GOD DAMNED MOUTH OPEN.

  16. As for Thor, I plan on being frightened of the final product until after the end credits. Then I'll segue into another, perhaps more powerful emotion.

  17. the version of excel i use doesn't have an XOR statement (A or B and not both), but it is sort of fun to work around that because I was starting to forget my symbolic logic. yay for restrictive environments.

  18. I <3 symbolic logic, as long as we are dealing with only symbols. I abhor applying symbolic logic to English statements.

  20. To be clear. House Republicans would not vote for the bailout monday but WOULD vote for it on friday when it was full of pork.

  21. We need smaller governemnt!

But only so that we can keep the excess.

  22. What I hate about symbolic logic is existential import.

    Because it changes everything.
