This is OUR Independence Day!
What a silly / awesome movie that was.
Gah, this damn movie.
It didn't even make sense to call it "Independence Day" other than for marketing reasons; it had nothing to do with independence.
The whole damn thing was just an embodiment of marketing.
And it was fucking awesome.
"What if we made a movie about aliens attacking Earth?"
Meh.
"What if it had Jeff Goldblum, and Judd Hirsh plays his dad?
Meh.
"Ok. What if we can get Will Smith and Bill Pullman?"
The guy from Spaceballs?
"Yes, the guy from Spaceballs."
I'm listening.
"Alright...alright. It's going to be a summer movie, so we can play up the action bits."
I dunno, we already have a lot of movies this summer.
"Oh, sure. Of course. But uh...we can release this movie on July 3rd...and we'll call it 'Independence day'."
Won't people see through that?
"Not if we have Bill Pullman give a speech in the movie, and in the movie it is Independence Day, and in the speech itself he points out that it is Independence Day."
So, wait. It's a movie about aliens attacking earth...but we'll call it "Independence Day". And the only reason we call it that is because it'll be released the day before Independence Day, and in the movie it will be Independence Day, and Bill Pullman will give a speech wherein he explicitely states that the day on which he is giving the speech is Independence Day?
"...Yeah, you're right. That is pretty stupid."
Stupid...ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK!

I just wrote 40 god damned mother fucking shit-ass pages in 9 and a half hours.
My hero.
I'm not a hero
I'm not a saviour
Forget what you know
Domo arigato?
.... Did we have a fireworks emergency here in the thread?
The fuck are you talking about?
adam - could you hook me up with your address?
Anybody notice the comment counts for this week are not right?
Its right by my count.
Caleb, that's kinda what I was trying to comment on.. worse, I seem to REMEMBER a pile of commments in this thread that are gone.
When I posted mine, there was a single deleted comment above me, and a count of 8 comments....
so.. I assumed someone blew a finger off, so to speak, metaphorically and all.
No, I posted 'domo arigato' monday night, then when i came into work tuesday morning it wasn't there so i posted it again. An hour later both were there, so deleted the second one.
.. somehow.. J's posts are back.. where they belong..
When I posted the Fireworks Emergency thing, all that appeared was Mike's initial post, your Domo, and.. mine.
everything between from silly/awesome to hero/savior was gone.
Blame-casting you for this, Kyle.
Normality has been enacted for me as well. I will continue to monitor the situation.
I think we're covered then. Caleb is soberly monitoring things, and I have righteous, unfocused castigation on lockdown.
COWER BEFORE MY FOCUSED LENS OF BLAME!
"Normality has been enacted for me as well. I will continue to monitor the situation."
I feel better, already.
Nothing quite like having my advisor come into the office half an hour before my defense to let me know that one of my committee members is in a bad mood.
This is going to be fun.
Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack - song by song review
I forgot about all this.. I was just playing some songs on shuffle in WMP and, Lo!, Speedy Guster Rainy Day.
Totally Badass.
Caleb, did you e-mail me some warfish thing?
Rainy Day's a wicked song, uptempo.
especially with the accel in the end.
Shamelessly stolen from a forum post elsewhere-
Wind in the Willows is a gangster story. (SPOILERS) (I reccomend you set your text to speech voice to Danny Dyer)
Moley meets ratty down by the riverbank (Docks?) Niether seem to have any form of employment apart from messing around in boats (Smuggling?). But they move in together and start a beautiful friendship.
Ratty introduces Moley to Mr Toad. Mr Toad has no apparant form of income but owns the local "Manor" and dabbles in various "interests" and buys a caravan off gysies (This is where Guy Ritchie got the plot for Snatch, he got the title when Maddona demanded he name a film after her.) He is hyper active and talks about himself all the time (Cokehead.)
Moley ventures into a rough part of town known as the wild wood and gets lost. The local gangs The Stoats and The Weasels give him a nasty scare. Fortunately Ratty realises where he's gone and gets seriously tooled up and comes looking for him. Ratty finds Moley and they go to Mr Badger's house. Bagder can be generally described as "Old School and fucking nails mate".
One day otter's son goes missing so they all jump on boats and go missing. For some reason they all decide to bosh some pills and that entire chapter goes a bit hippy and trippy (Piper at the Gates of Dawn.)
Badger, Ratty and Moley get fed up with Toads coke head antics and decide to cold turkey the fucker before he ends up like scarface. Toady escapes TWOC's a car and gets nicked by the filth. Toady gets a Ten Stretch (Kilo of the white stuff in the boot.) He decides to escape from prison and manages to escape in drag and steal a train.
When he arrives back he discovers that The Stoats and The Weasels have formed an alliance (probably funded by a Russian Meerkat crime syndicate) and have taken over his "Manor".
Toady gets the gang back togther, they all tool up and go and take care of business. They get brutal with The Stoats and The Weasels and hit them at a party. Turns out Moley is a fucking nutter. The Stoats and The Weasels disband as soon as their bosses are dead.
I can only assume that because Toad manages to move back into his house and no one is arrested for the violence, that he has paid off the coppers.
The End.
It was, in fact, me.
I saw this today and it made me giggle--
Congress: the opposite of Progress
Alright. I did not know that you had that e-mail address.
Ahh. I've had this email address for longer than any other that I currently have.
No, I didn't know that you had the address of mine to which you sent the thing.
It is easily findable on the interwebs.

Indeed. I was aiming for an address likely often checked.
