I find that most people like most things too much.

I would agree that most people like most things too much. But if a person did not have one thing which they liked too much I think most people would put a gun in their mouth, pull the trigger, and hope the shell was not a blank.

Fucking Brilliant

Lillet is a wine based apertif.

it's NOT the same as lillet blanc, though it's by the same people.

/point

I wonder what the world would be like without those people. I wonder I would still be around in that world.

It sure can't be worse than I think.

I has a new cell phone.

It has functional T9. So texting is not a gigantic pain in the ass. It looks like this.

And it does, in fact, come pre-loaded with pictures of niggers.

Is that a pretzel or a piece of fried chicken?

_J_ said...

Fried chicken infused with malt liquor.

Last week's episode of House is on Hulu.

Very good.

Roscoe said...

It's got episodic meta commentary on the formula, right?

Because, that's what GOOD House eps do?

any crazy Tea Party news yet?

"It's got episodic meta commentary on the formula, right?"

Not really, no.

The New Deal only worked because of WW2. So, I think, to solve the current banking crisis we need to go to war with Germany.

Apparently some firmware update for the PSP happened.

I can't run a game I bought until I update.

I never play the PSP so it sits in a corner (literally, this time) with dead batteries until someone (me, this time) takes pity on it.

I plugged the thing in and attempted to run the update.

UPDATE WILL NOT RUN BATTERIES ARE LOW RECHARGE BATTERIES AND TRY AGAIN

It's plugged into the wall!

YOUR LOCAL POWER STATION IS CRAP

I have some lights on in here, and my TV is on, those all must take more power than the PSP, and they don't seem to have any trouble getting power from the wall.

THEY DON'T USE UMDS THOUGH. UMDS REQUIRE SO MANY JIGGAWATTS THAT YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW

*Puts PSP back in the corner*

_J_ said...

Back in the day the patch required to play the game would be loaded onto the UMD with the game. So if you tried to play the game it would be all "update, bitch" and then you could play.

MA17 said...

Ah, this update is indeed included on the UMD. For Star Ocean: You Never Learn, Do You?. This should be interesting.

Roscoe said...

You never, ever, DO learn, do you?

_J_ said...

PSP is a stickler for being plugged in to do updates. Sony doesn't trust your ability to assess battery level.

Also, I'm surrounded by philosophy students who think that arguing from first principles is silly, archaic, and stupid. So I need to devise some awesome first principles.

You know what I hate about Star Ocean? Personal Actions. Essentially they're opportunities for you to talk to your party members and in/de-crease their affection towards...eachother, the main character? I don't know. Nobody knows except people not worth talking to.

Anyway, affection sometimes influences how the AI assists you in battle which is retarded because these are people who will give up their entire way of life to follow some guy who wants to do some crap, but they won't heal him because he said he didn't like kitties.

You can force people to heal you, though, and party AI is retarded in almost all cases, so that aspect is pretty much moot. The real problem with Personal Actions is that you select to enter PA mode while near a town, then you go into that town and find your party members and talk to them. The way it usually works for me is I'll get to a new town, check the shops and local gossip, then leave. This puts me "near a town", so I have the option to do PAs, meaning I go BACK into town, and REINVESTIGATE IT looking for the NPCs that I carry around with me.

By the time S03 came around, the towns were fucking huge, and had super tons of buildings, and after a few times looking for them, I said fuck it. This put me in conflict with the other thing PAs do: give you the good ending. Whenever I finish a SO, I pretty much wind up marooned on a comet headed for the sun, and it's all because I don't want to play fucking tag every time I go to a town.

SO4 pretty much fixed PAs by restricting them to your ship. It was still kind of a dick to talk to everyone, but they were all in the same relatively small area every time.

In Dragon Quest if you want to talk to your party you fucking turn around and say "Hey, what's going on" and they tell you things. It's not hard to do this right.

Roscoe said...

Man.. that shit's been fixed in a NUMBER of games. FF 9's Active Time Events, the various Suikoden castle quests, etc.

_J_ said...

I do not enjoy talking to NPC party members.

That's one of the reasons I play WoW. If someone fucks up I get to yell at a real, life person instead of some string of code.

Roscoe said...

Dude, you're missing out.

On strings of code, you can REALLY let fly, and practice new, tantalizing invective, without the potential of it blowing back on you.

Roscoe said...

.. so.. I just saw a pic of a Stormtrooper... in full dress.. posing beside three Monarch Henchmen. In full costume, with dart rifles.

Heh.
