I think we need to be clear. This is not a First Amendment issue.

The Civi Rights Act of 1964 was about ending institutional racism nation wide. But it follows that by breaking down the institutional structures that support racism, we begging to break down the more problematic and more destructive cultural racism.

God damn it.

Why couldn't fucker just say "Yes, if a restaurant owner does not want to serve members of group X, then as an owner of a private business he ought to have the right to choose who he will or will not serve."

It's not a difficult sentence.

Still trying to figure out why being honest would be a bad thing for him politically.

What he really thinks would play right into the mentality that persons working at wal-mart oughtn't have to sell someone a condom if they think condoms are evil. And the only people who will vote for him share that belief.

Exactly.

He would be better off simply saying, "The government does not have the authority to tell a person whom they must do business with."

That, at least, is coherent. As it is, he's just forcing everyone to dwell on it.

Of course, he could be doing this on purpose... What is he really hiding?

why? its very simple.

He cannot say that he believes that a private business for the same reason other republicans cannot say "I believe every homo should be castrated" or "we should kill mexican babies"

they want to get elected. Rand is a extreme libertarian to the point where it is no longer in his interest to be an extreme libertarian. For instance: Health Care Reform
