Diablo III - The Monk

Yesterday at Blizzcon Blizzard previewed the newest Diablo II class: The Monk. The Monk seems to be replacing the paladin as the non-tank fighter. From the post:

They went over some Monk skills, like the Way of the Hundred Fists. The power features three clicks of the same power that transitions from a single attack to a massive AOE. Then there's Crippling Wave, which first slows the enemy, then reduces damage to the Monk. Each skill seems to have different stages. In Exploding Palm, the first and second hits do damage, the 3rd adds a damage-over-time effect, and, if the enemy dies by this DOT, it explodes.

The powers can be stage one of one power can be switched to stage two of the next and stage three of the next. The different combinations should make for many unique strategies. (formerly has a good summery of the monk).

White House Rethinks How It Sells Health Overhaul

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama, trying to regain control of the health-care debate, will likely shift his pitch in September, White House and Democratic officials said, as he faces pressure from supporters to talk more about the moral imperative to provide health insurance to all Americans.

Democrats Seem Set to Go It Alone on a Health Bill
WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to Congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance of the minority’s cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans’ purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month’s Congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

Apparently Democrats finally realized that Republicans would call any reform Socialized Medicine.

Asshole of the Day: Antonin Scalia

In 1989 Tony Davis was given the death penalty for the murder of an off-duty Savannah police officer. During the trial and the appeal process Davis claimed he was innocent. His lawyers repeatedly argued that Davis had ben falsely identified. After the trial all but one of the IDing witnesses recanted their testimony. In the last twenty years no court has been willing to hear the new evidence which would show that Davis did not kill the police officer.

Today the Supreme Court ruled that that a federal judge judge must look at the evidence before the execution can go forward. And guess what, Antonin Scalia and his bitch Clarence Thomas thought that was bullshit. Scalia wrote:

This Court has never held that the Constitution forbids the execution of a convicted defendant who has had a full and fair trial but is later able to convince a habeas court that he is “actually” innocent. Quite to the contrary, we have repeatedly left that question unresolved, while expressing considerable doubt that any claim based on alleged “actual innocence” is constitutionally cognizable.

In other words: Whether one is actual innocent or not. If an individual is convicted of a crime than he/she committed the crime even when there is clear evidence that someone else committed a crime.
