Minecraft [chat]
Apparently, Minecraft is going from Alpha to Beta soon, which again raises the question: Why the fuck do people play Minecraft? A possible answer could be found in this post, detailing how an individual built a 16-bit computer within Minecraft.
Which I think proves that players of Minecraft are simply operating under a different definition of "fun" than the rest of us.
Not that Minecraft isn't...novel. And, sure, building a 16-bit computer inside a computer program is...a thing to do. But there are many other things to do which, perhaps, are more fun than Minecraft. Hell, here's a quick list.
List of things which are more fun than Minecraft:
1) Sex
2) Consuming Liquor
3) Consuming Liquor + Sex
4) Zelda?
Though, truthfully, neither liquor nor sex will result in a minecraft save file within which can be found a 16-bit computer within which there are little digital piggies running around.

It's...neat...that the guy build the 16-bit calculator in Minecraft. But, I mean for fuck's sake, once you have the damn computer on which Minecraft is running what is the point of building a calculator within that program?
If he built this thing in his yard? Epic win; yards do not already have calculators. But...
Building a calculator within Minecraft is kind of like taking a wooden spoon, widdling it down into a smaller spoon, and then proclaiming HOLY SHITS I JUST MADE A SPOON!

Also, I like to think of Minecraft like Legos. Sometimes it's just fun to create and build.

Though, I don't mean to downplay the importance of Wikileaks informing the populace that China is trying to censor things.

Okay.. here's the thing about WikiLeaks and Assange.
Everything about them is designed to be dismissable. I mean.. it's Mikey's crpytofascism fetish from over a decade ago made real, and run by a Nerd who thinks he's a Bond Villian.
What they're doing? DAMNED interesting, and hard to get a handle on. Reacting to it? Impossible to do seriously, for the above mentioned.
I mean.. Bill Hader's Assange impersonation is more credible, effect, and crucially, understandable.
As of right now everything I know about Assange comes from the two SNL sketches I've watched featuring Bill Hader, which I feel is a strong enough foundation upon which to build an understanding of Assange.
I agree that he seems to think he's a Bond villian. But, to his credit, he does look quite a bit like the guy who plays dwight schrute, which may explain some things.
He also looks like the guy from Laser Cats. And Laser Cats was awesome. Which means he is awesome, where by "he" I mean "laser cats".

I completely reject that video games have to be fun. These things are a bit more complicated than that.
