Obama is Smart
Just a quite note because I am at work.
This morning The White House released the president's hospital records from his birth. The thing that birthers have been yelling about for 3 fucking years.
Why did Obama wait? Because he is smart. He waited until Republicans started to announce they were running in 2012. He waited until one of those guys started clamoring about this.
Obama just made Donald fucking Trump the GOP front runner because he forced Obama to prove he was really an America

We may need to wait a few weeks to discern the full impact of this. I doubt that it will make Trump the frontrunner. At the moment, sure, Trump's actions caused, in a sense of the word, Obama to produce his birth certificate. Trump articulated a demand that the president had to acknowledge.
But since Obama had a birth certificate, that question is no longer live. Trump now needs another platform, and I doubt that "I made Obama photocopy his birth certificate" will carry him through 2012.

It "legitimizes" him in a way that nothing else could. The more the media talks about trump now - the less they are going to talk about what Mitt or Huckabee are doing.
Mike's right, in that this single-handedly turns Trump into THE polarizing issue for the far-right base, which is broadly the same base as the Tea Party funbags..
Not only does it get the media talking about Trump, it forces anyone else looking at the primaries to take a stance on the issue, by way of commenting on it. It's not about carrying a candidate, but about boxing the field into a specific position.
This is the Underworld Dreams or Mirari's Wake of the election. Once it hits the table, the game is all about it for the imminent future, you are forced to deal with it, or you suffer for not doing so.
