I played World Tour this weekend.

I never got to sing.

And Bowser needs a god damned sedative.

Also, World Tour has Crazy Train.

You were more than welcome to sing, if you so pleased, all you had to do was ask.

Yeah. But then I'd be that guy.

Singing in these games just seems to be different. Fake drum playing or fake guitar playing or fake bass playing is one thing. But singing is sort of the genuine thing in these games; it is not one step removed as is the drumming or the strumming.

That's what is odd about the experience. I'm entirely comfortable fake guitar playing because it is just pushing buttons. But asking to sing seems to be very different...

Possibly because there is no mediation between the self and what is actualized. Possibly.

singing seems to be the least fun part of the game.

you have to be able to SING, as we learned this weekend. playing guitar and drums is more like the video game playing we have all been doing since we were 7 or 8. It is controlled button mashing.

I wonder if part of our probem with the singing was we were using the headset and not the normal mic thing that comes with the game. When i played the game before i did not have NEARLY the problem. I am wondering if it is the distance one holds the mic from the mouth.

I'm just tone deaf.

Exactly. But now that you've said it, I think I disagree with it.

We can describe singing via the biological process by which a human makes a particular noise. And as kyle noted, there is also a mental process whereby one can or can not replicated the tones one hears.

But there is a similar process involved in playing the Guitar. It's still about one's ability to perform a task.

It's just that in one situation one is pushing buttons in a particular order and in another one is manipulating one's vocal process in a particular way.

So it's probably the case that they are not actually different but rather we have a degree of comfort with one over the other. We've been failing at pushing buttons in public for a very long time. We've failed at singing in public far less frequently.

Maybe. I don't know.

It comes down to experience. I only have experience singing in the car and shower with no measuring stick to denote how I am doing, but I have been playing video games, improving my hand-eye coordination, on a regular basis for roughly 20 years.

Of course I will be better at one than the other. I can assure my cousin's wife, who is a classically trained opera singer, would succeed at the other more so than the one.

The issue is that I don't enjoy struggling to do something I suck at while people around me suffer because of it, while they succeed at doing something they are good at.

I want to hear a classically trained opera singer do Crazy Train.
