Yeah, pretty much.

Last week was the Band Candy ep. The humor ep. And it was fairly funny.

GODDAMN SNOWY NBC!

I am sad that Dollhouse is going down in ratings flames given how good it could be if it had started at episode 5.

I'm starting to think that people stopped being Cartesian Dualists not because they stopped thinking Descartes right but rather because they wanted people to not shit on them any longer.

I bought some video game character figurines this weekend. Whenever I buy these things, I stop for a moment and think about what I'm actually buying: a physical representation of an illustration. I'm not going to play with it, I'm not going to use it as a conversation starter with my numerous and exciting guests, I'm not even going to look at it very often, even though it's going to sit near the TV. It's just a piece of plastic in the shape of a person from a video game that's going to sit on a shelf instead of in a box.

And then after I'm done stopping to think about this, I buy it anyway and think "hell yeah Kuradoberi Jam figure!"

Boobies!

Indeed.

Also. Etrian Odyssey aka Cartography RPG. Late to the party? So late.

Anyway, there's been two blissful moments where the game has really really shined, and time one was when I thought of all the hours I was going to spend drawing a map, and time two was when I found a really good place to grind levels.

I also appreciate that you can pick what skills you want and there is a skill tree of sorts, and I also appreciate that you can retire high level characters for slightly more powerful new characters, though I think that system is a bit weak, especially compared to Disgaea.

Bottom line: I understand that probably everyone who knows anything about Etrian Odyssey has been able to make a snap decision based on their understanding of how the game compares to their own idea of fun, and that decision was probably right. But man, if you've been on the fence about the whole drawing a map and leveling up game, then consider this a gentle nudge.

For the ease of the reader: the above post is not sarcastic. I like Etrian Odyssey quite a bit and I would encourage those who think they may enjoy it to try it (if they can find it. My experience on this point is that it requires more than a little luck to find either EO or its sequel).

Etrian Odyssey is one.. HELLUVA... niche game.

I LOVES me it, and.. yet.... I'll say this about it.

It is not a game to try and restart. That shit will kill any interest dead.

It's hella nice to see a nice sorta throwback game like it, though.

Issue 1.2 of The ECCCS is out!

_J_ said...

At this point the only thing that could make Diablo 3 any better would be for it to be released.

Etrian Odyssey is a game which exists, and I am glad for that insofar as it is a game for people other than me to play.

I still have not purchased Pokemon platinum, but I think of this as a flaw in myself other than a flaw in the game itself.

WoW patch 3.1 needs to be released soon. And you people need to play WoW.

Or, well, I guess I could allow for people to not play WoW if you all play Diablo 3. That may be the comprimise.

I will most likely be taking a week off of work for Diablo III if that tells how much i will hella play it.

My power supply went dead on my PC (still using the one from 2000ish). I went to buy a new one and found out that not only is pretty much every component in a PC different than how it was, but there are even four extra pins on the main power line going into the motherboard. Fortunately the supply he had can disconnect the extra pins to support....legacy systems.

Of course, even with those extras off, the stupid clip that holds the plug in was colliding with some nearby fucking THING and I had to cut the clip off so it would fit.

Computers, man.

Unknown said...

Newer machines require more power, those first 20 pins just aren't cutting it anymore man...

You should have just called me though, i have at least 3 older working power supplies in my graveyard.

Roscoe said...

..... Do newer computers really need to hover over water?

omg jaws!

@roscoe: well played, sir.

Here's the thing, MA17. You have a job. You have a source of funds. And yet you do not buy a new computer. Why is that?

They aren't even really that expensive anymore. You can get a decent gaming desktop (read: WoW machine) for around $1,000. And my guess is that a new computer wouldn't even require you to maintain a steady supply of paper clips in order to prevent the fans from running.

So, last night I got drunk; really drunk. Usually I know where my line is so I stay on the side of the line wherein my internal monologue stays in my head. But last night I crossed the line so that my internal monologue became my external monologue.

So while I'm at work this afternoon one of the girls who was there sent me a text telling me to "stop freaking out". Apparently after I returned home I sent some e-mails to one of my friends who was at the bar, he read them this afternoon, and thought I was "freaking out". So I tamp down that little mess, apologize for whatever I did, and think i'm fine.

Then I check my guild forums and find that last night I posted some shit there which I honestly do not remember posting. So, again, I apologize and move on.

THEN I get on the PA forums and people inform me that, last night, I was drunk posting there as well.

I think I need to compile all of this information together and discern what I did last night. Because it might have been pretty damn epic.

All I clearly remember is being pissed off at the bar guy for not having Bacardi 151. And I think that was more rational anger than drunk anger. Because, seriously, what the fuck bar doesn't have 151?!

Although, It's probably a good thing that they didn't have it last night.

I kind of wish I remember what happened, though.

Roscoe said...

Actually, quite a few bars don't have 151. Bars that like to keep things quiet and pleasant tend to.

So.. you know... not your kinda place. You want a Stabbity's.

That loud sucking sound you heard this afternoon was
Levi Johnston taping an interview on Tyra.

The and Bristol used condoms most of the time. To bad close only counts in Atomic Warfare and sounding.

adam, you must have done something magic to that computer. I went through 3 main boards/CPUs between 2000 and 2007 when i abandoned MechChan for my MacPro 2 years ago.

MA17 said...

A new computer is a bottom-tier priority. I use this thing for the internet and for BASIC, and I really don't see myself spending money on a different set of electronics to perform the same tasks.

As for why this thing is lasting a time and a half, I really don't know. I vaccuumed some dusty cobwebs out of it the other day when I put in the new power supply. Sometimes if I turn the machine off after being on for a long time, the processor comes unseated. The mainboard has never been attached to the case properly, and I cant screw in the sound card securely or else it won't fit right.

But man, they're selling the DSi by showing two guys make wacky face photos? Why not just end the commercial with "IT HAS PICTOCHAT, TOO!" and then show a picture of a DSi being used to prop up an uneven table or something.

Then the next commercial is for Castlevania DSi and you have to take a picture of your toaster in order to kill Dracula. WOWEE

_J_ said...

Fuck the DSi.

It doesn't have a GBA slot.

You know what made the DS great? It had a GBA slot. So you could move your pokeymans over. Can you move pokeymans with a DSi? No. No you cannot.

And fuck shitty cameras. We really need to move on, as a species, from this whole "add a camera" bullshit.

Mike Lewis said...

the DSi defentaly feels like a half-messure money grab while Nintendo works on a real next-gen handheld game. The lack of a GBA slot does not bother me really inasmuch as i am not a pokemon player. i still use my GBA to play GBA games because i have a lot of classic Game Boy games i still play.

The one thing the DSi has going for it is the ablity to get games from the online store via the wii. The problem is, i don't want to buy Legend of Zelda AGAIN. Nintendo really should take a cue from Microsoft and get awesome indie game developers to make awesome games.

Roscoe said...

MAn.. the GBA slot is gold.

Not just for pokeymans, neithers. It's what gives the DS the ability to play EVERY FF ever released on a Nintendo system.

So I've been keeping an eye on Castlevania: Judgement (Wii fighting game). Well, I've been keeping an eye on the price. I'm not going to pay $50 for what is generally accepted as garbage, and the guy at Blockbuster scoffed at me when I asked if they had it. I've never seen a used copy (someone would have to actually BUY it first), so a price break was my only hope. It went down $10 and that was all the excuse I needed to pick it up.

I've played it for a few hours, unlocked a few things (probably everything I'll actually want to unlock) and I have to admit, it's really not THAT retarded. When it was in development, IGA said it's not a fighting game in spite of screen shots showing two health bars and a timer above two characters who, by all appearances, were fighting in a game. Now that I've played it, I can kind of see what he meant. The combos and move sets are pretty much all action game-type, not fighting game-type. You press the attack button four times and that's a combo. You press X and that's the ultimate move. That's not how fighting games work.

Judgment has a lot more in common with the 3D PS2 Castlevania games than it does with Soulcalibur (despite featuring several Soulcalibur rip-offs), but pretty much all of the castle exploration and Metroid-ing is gone and all you do is fight bosses. Frankly, if the PS3 Castlevania game just takes most of the Judgment battle engine and puts all the rest of the Castlevania stuff back in, it might be pretty cool.

Oh, and the game supports the classic controller and the GCN controller. Needless to say, I played story mode with the wiimote once, then put that thing the fuck down and found a GCN pad.
