I know it came out last week, but I just now got to play it. My overarching Tim Schafer opinion is that it really doesn't matter what the gameplay is about because the game itself is secondary to my enjoyment of Tim Schafer entertainments. I'm not yet convinced that this BL is actually all that interesting to play, but it doesn't matter, because absolutely everything else about it is, well, fucking rad.
I know Tim has always wanted to work in games, but following the demise of the graphical adventure, I'm wondering if maybe he should just make movies or some kind of tv series.
Incidentally, Liam Lynch has done some good things for Jack Black and The D, but including any two ideas from Brutal Legend would have significantly improved that turdly Pick of Destiny. Maybe in the future, Lynch could help write some songs and he could produce or something while Schafer directs and executive produces, because it's pretty obvious that Schafer knows what the fuck he's doing.
The presentation of brutal legend is phenominal. The game, not so much. I have found that Demon's Souls is fucking rad. I plan on writing up a half assed review when i'm not actively playing the shit out of it.
It isn't just the marketing of the Brutal legend that is fantastic though. The presentation completely makes the game. The world it takes place in is engrossing. The problem is that the gameplay it is built upon is not nearly so awesome. I've played the demo and watched a few missions of the game, and it is a broken game concept on top of a glorious IP.
One of the things I like about Metalocalypse is that it is usually about taking mundane shit and making it metal. Starting with the Duncan Hills jingle and then out through sea life and therapy and family times, it's about injecting or discovering the brutal nature of pretty much everything.
A lot of the stuff I've been doing in Brutal Legend is pretty similar to what we've done in other games, but rendered more metal. Zelda comes to mind especially as a strong influence, but whereas that game had an elf boy blowing on a flute to summon a pretty pony, this game is about playing a wicked guitar solo to call forth a roadster that shoots flames from its pipes and blasts Motorhead tunes.
Arguably it's still the same dumb shit as the other game, but now it's been turned into something awesome just by tweaking a few parameters.
Brutal Legend's successes thus far have been, by my estimation, based largely on tweaking such parameters. Plus, licensed music, celebrity appearances, and Tim Schafer don't hurt, but where gameplay is concerned, it seems to be a lot of "it's like another game you've played, but now with blowers and chrome and horns".
As an aside, I almost wish there were someone in this game to provide a bit of grounding in reality. Manny was a good foil for Glottis and the Bone Wagon in Grim Fandago, because Manny was a pretty regular guy and Glottis was a gear head who was obsessed with making their ride super sweet. Glottis would fit into the Brutal Legend world pretty neatly, but I don't really see anyone who can provide the kind of sarcastic cynicism that Manny brought along to keep Glottis from looking sane.
BL has Lars, sure, but he's just kind of ineffectual and stupid.
I'm on the 360 for pretty much everything that is multi-platform.
The driving, for me, gets three shrugs out of a possible disinterested sigh. It hasn't been fun, but honestly, I haven't had fun driving in a game in the last ten years.
I told you I will write a half assed review of Demon's Souls next time I have an hour to waste in front of the laptop.
360 has HDMI support, HDMI is not definitely better than component cables when displaying video. The only real advantage, from my point of view, is the reduction to a single cable.
Someday someone will make an episode of a sitcom where two characters fist bump and then make an explosion out of it, then one guy will call "up top!" for a hi-five and the other guy will say "I know, right?" and then a guy with a big knife will bust in and kick them both in the nuts.
And then that guy will yell "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT"
But the leap being made is that in stating something is homophobic, one is black. The leap just doesn't make sense. It was poor joke writing to bring it full circle back to racist.
I liked the episode, thank you, but it wasn't up the incredibly high standards they have set in all of the previous episodes.

Alec Baldwin suggests that you reconsider.

My mom bought a Viper.
Apparently this will make her happy.

Robotech is on Hulu!!!!
Does anyone here have any experience with Portishead?
former roommate Eston LOVED Portishead. I did not care for it.
Viper?
Does it morph? It better have like armor and shit, or you'll never get to be in Viper.
Also, Brutal Legend is fucking rad.

i just downloaded the Brutal Legend demo - i have not got a chance to play it yet, it is on the list of things to do tomorrow

I want two reviews:
1) The marketing of Brutal Legends.
2) The game Brutal Legends.
My assumption is that 1 is a highly rated review while 2 is stuck in tedium.

On Brutal Legend: Fuck the driving sequences. Otherwise, if i had 50$ might concider playing it
On Venture Brothers: What the hell was that?

having only played the demo - the driving stuff can go to hell.
the writing is awesome...which version are you guys playing (360 or ps3?)

Same the only two ps3 games I own or have played are exclusives.
i played the ps3 demo - ps3 has become my goto for multi platform games - mostly because it is set up though the HDMI and the 360 is not.
WTB game reviews as their own posts.
Cause, then we increase our post count.
Woo posts.

"360 has HDMI support, BUT HDMI is not definitely "
Fixing typo. Nothing to see here, please move on.
I wish I had HDMI support.
my cable is hooked into the component input
the ps3 needed to be hooked into the HDMI so we can watch BRs
that leaves the RCA jack for the 360.
the band?
Godgollydamn, but I love me some Portishead.
I'm led to understand that some parts of the design of Legend is pretty genius.
Such as subtly looping parts of the soundtrack, until you hit objectives, such that the music properly gets epic at the right moments.
Source selectors are cheap these days.
i know i know
but we don't have a lot of room - and we hope to get a new TV once we have....you know...jobs

"I slept with you because you got me drunk on wine coolers and I felt fat that day."
glee is pretty great.
It's in your blood.
That's racist.
Your soul.
That's racist.
Your eyes?
That's gay.
That's homophobic.
That's black.
That's racist!
Damn.
I didn't understand the leap from homophobic to black.
Yeah, that episode was garbage.
it was a GREAT episode.
And the joke was that part of the "Black" identity includes a bit of homophobia.
gah. it was good, and you two are.... UnGood. devillish approximations of Good designed to cause folks to stray from the path of proper humor.
Get Thee Hence.
But the leap being made is that in stating something is homophobic, one is black. The leap just doesn't make sense. It was poor joke writing to bring it full circle back to racist.
