Teapot > Flying Spagetti Monster
There is an article on MSNBC.com about a talk on the Flying Spagetti Monster which is to occur at this year's meeting of the American Academy of Religion.
While the Flying Spagetti Monster is neat enough it bothers me that it gets all of the attention when Russell already did the same thing with his teapot.
It is interesting that the manner in which an idea is conveyed matters so much. Pasta Monsters gain attention while teapots are ignored even though they are arguably the same thing.

Original or not, I don't know how any teapot could hope to compete with a monster featuring "noodly appendages".

Yeah. But they're both the same idea. One is presented with "noodly appendages" and the other not and the "noodly appendages" is the one around which people flock.
Also, the teapot was devised in the 50s so it did not have the help of bloggers and whatnot.
But it still existed. And religious studies people presumably knew about it.
So why they would get around to debating it now is what bothers me.
It's the Seasame street defense.
