Wii MotionPlus

The Wii MotionPlus:

Nintendo's upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion.
Next up is the Wii MotionPlusPlus followed shortly by the Wii MotionPlusPlusPlus and finally there is a Wii MotionPlusPlusPlusPlus slated for release in 2024.

Due to a bug in the Wii MotionPlusPlusPlus a Wii MotionPlusPlusPlusMinus will be released a year later, followed by a Wii MotionPlusPlusPlusMinusPlus which reviews will call "Double Plus good!"

I'm not opposed to the product. I think it sensible to fix the damned Wiimote and make it function. I'm opposed to the name. It oughtn't be called the "MotionPlus", it ought to be called the "WiiMote Fix". And its marketing line ought to be:

"This device makes the Wiimote function, because it didn't, fuck you."

It will be very interesting to see what happens with this and how it is viewed by different people. Will people who hate the Wii latch onto it as "proof" that the Wii was released as an incomplete product which failed to deliver? Will fanboys accept it as an "addition" moreso than an acknowledgement of failure? Or will it merely be an accessory?

Also, will this be required by future games? Will only some games use it? Will it be somehow backwards compatible and perhaps somehow allow Zelda to be more responsive to wiimote commands?

At least this is a tacit admission by Nintendo that the Wiimote was not all it could have been at release. I think that is a fair observation. Because this is not an accessory like the wii-wheel or zapper...it adds functionality to the device.

The depth of that addition will be seen in how it is utilized. If it's a universal "you have to have this to play" accessory? Then that is a hardware patch. If it is optional? I'm not sure what that means.
