I always thought Mr Rogers was trying to bring kids' egos up from the bottom, and not inflate them over the top, so it's interesting to hear people say otherwise.

But beyond that, wildly attaching the blame of society’s ills to big popular things has gotten old. This story is about as important to the human race as “SHARK ATTACKS: IS YOUR KITCHEN SAFE FROM KILLER BEES?!”, which is to say that it gives us something to make fun of and yell about, which is vitally important.

No, but see, Mr. Rogers told kids that they were special, so they feel as if they ought to get extra credit if they have a C in the class. Because they deserve an A...because...Mr. Roges said so...
