on misdirection...
So I was thinking. I thought this thought.
Terrorism is a Red Herring. Is terrorism our generation's communism?
Thoughts?

I'm sorry, but I have to call bullshit. You've clearly misapplied the Red Herring term, when this is clearly a case of Boogeymanism.
I'm assigning demerits.
I hate communism.
I do not think that Terrorism is necessarily misdirection from a real threat...well...let me start over.
Terrorism is a threat. But it is not nearly as big a threat as it is currently portrayed to be. Communism, on the other hand, is a terrible threat and could change our way of life.
um.
I don't think terrorism and communism are equal, is what I'm saying. Cause, you know, the Ruskies had The Bomb.
Many a person before you thought this same thought. It was especially eerie during the time in which criticizing the president meant that you were somehow less of an american. Also, there is a reason Olberman has been ending his special comments with "Good night and good luck".
I dont know that terrorism is any more threat now than it ever has been.
and was used to get people to look away from domestic issues.
"I dont know that terrorism is any more threat now than it ever has been."
What changed is that we are now more aware of it than we were before 9/11. And I hate to be the one to invoke 9/11 in the thread...but...that's what started all of this.
I do not think that this was meant to distract from domestic issues, though. I think it was meant to scare people so that they are more gullible.
So you're saying it's a ruse rather than a smokescreen?
"So you're saying it's a ruse rather than a smokescreen?"
Yeah...I think that is a fair characterization.
Boogeyman, not Red Herring.
Big scary inflated thing vs. phoney trail.
Sometimes, I wish everyone could pick up the metaphors I throw down. Life would be much more interesting.
Also, terrifying.
Like a boogeyman.
Eat my metaphor.
Eat my pous.
