Last week. But, of what?

They were that close to killing off all the extra Venture characters.

That close!

Shia LaBeouf arrested for drunk driving.

Good...good. Now kill him.

The thing about that episode is that it was a massive set up and.. an unresolved punchline.

I LOVED it.. but.. yeah.

It's best moments were reveling in Jonas' crew and all the ways that they're all just fucked up.

.. though.. I can't tell if I like the fake out segue from the stinger from the previous episode into this one or not.

On the one hand.. Monarch moving to arch Jonas Jr. would have been great...

on the other.. Newly revealed equally ruined and screwup JJ isn't as funny for Monarch gags.

gah. my skull aches, and all I want is to crawl back into bed.

The episode did not have a story so much as things happened and characters did things. And there were gay jokes.

MEH.

If they had all died at the end? Wonderful. As it was? Meh.

oh my god. DePuy's legal department .. the upper laywer types? like to talk "historical" politics.. with half-correct facts and terribly confused logic.

I swear I just heard one of them bitching about the "liberal media", hero-worship, and FDR.

Roscoe said...

No... there WAS a story. It was a bait and switch, though.

It looked like were were building to an epic throwdown, as we see that JJ is indeed Jonas' son, i.e. a fuckup, just like every Venture.

But it's resolved, with the projector reel and asking Rusty to come up on stage.

It's a character episode, but there was a plot.

Roscoe said...

If anything, it's really neat in that JJ is both the hyper-successful character he's always been shown to be earlier..

AND in the same ways, he's entirely the same character as Rusty. Egocentric, deeply oblivious to any number of things, etc.

_J_ said...

It's plot in the sense that any sequence of events rendered towards some end is plot.

_J_ said...

God damn Pop Tarts are disgusting.

That's what I won't miss about working: the inability to access good eats from within the building.

Roscoe said...

... It's plot in the sense that it's an actual plot, Jay.

If you are trying to articulate a criticism, then do so coherrently?

Roscoe said...

... becuase.. maybe it's just that it's text.. or maybe it's that I'm miserable and sore today..

but this habit of your wherein you intimate that something is lacking somehow, by speaking in tautlogies?

Really getting tiresome.

I hope the "killing two" modifies the performance of Annie rather than Adkisson.

work is stalled, and I have an ugly headache.

Must suck having to depend on a vending machine for whim snacks. I have coldstone and gelato da vinci, so nyah!

"I have coldstone and gelato da vinci, so nyah!"

Bastard!

I would say that I want to work at an office that affords me access to ice cream and delicious. But I don't want to work in an office.

I'd settle for a faculty lounge with a fridge and functional stove. And maybe a stripper pole.

Maybe.

"I'm going to sit here and gnaw on a fingernail."

I usually pick at this callus which developed as a result of my frisbee golf playing.

Fingernail gnawing is kinda gross. Who knows where my hands have been?

"Id love to be on the platform (Wii)," Ceraldi said. "It’s purely an issue of size limit. Our game is just too big. If they (Nintendo) increase that limit or add a harddrive, anything like that we would revisit (Wii Ware)."

Poke Poke

Unknown said...

That size limit has nothing to do with the lack of hard drive. Nintendo decided to make a hard limit of 40 megs for any game released on wiiware. the PA game has a case in which they could release it on disc eventually would very easily work with the wii, as I know for a fact the PA game could fit on a dvd.

I actually quite like the 40 meg limit on WiiWare. It forces developers to take a different approach to developing games, and breeds ingenuity and creativity. I don't think we would have ever seen a game like FFCC:MLAAK without it.

That's amazing to me.

With video games we've engaged in this continual progression of bigger better faster, bigger better faster, bigger better faster, and then a technology comes along which stimies "bigger" and "faster" to put the primary focus on "better"...and we appreciate that.

That's weird.

I've never played My Life As A King. But isn't it just Harvest Moon meets Sim City? Not saying that is bad...

It's just odd how the scope we appreciate can change so drastically.

_J_ said...

Kind of like how people in my WoW guild are completely obsessed with Travian. During a raid they'll start talking about it...and...

They're playing World of Warcraft...but they're thinking and talking about a fucking browser game.

The Homeownership Obsession

I enjoy reading Robert J. Samuelson. He's grumpy and mathy.

Unknown said...

You could compare MLAAK to Harvest Moon in that it is separated into days and you only have a set amount of time to do anything, and you can compare it to Sim City, in that you are building a city, but that is where the comparisons end.

There is so much less micro management in MLAAK as you would see in a Sim City. There is an end goal of defeating a final boss, which completely separates it from both.

It is a quality game and an amazing piece of software considering it is only 40 megs. I like anything that breeds innovation. If reducing the amount of space allowed to write for it, breeds innovation then I am all for it. Obviously MLAAK could be improved with more space, and faster processors, but the limitations helped to breed this original game, rather than allow developers to keep producing the same god damn game every year only BIGGER and BETTER.

He said a lot of the same things I did, only he explained it better.

The housing crisis is a result of idiots, and people willing to take advantage of idiots.

_J_ said...

He also said some things I said.

"We think everyone should become a homeowner, when many families can't or shouldn't."

Some people need to own their own homes. Some people do not. It's all about assessing particular situations.

_J_ said...

"Obviously MLAAK could be improved with more space, and faster processors, but the limitations helped to breed this original game"

It's interesting to think that the game exists as a result of that limitation. But I suppose that is true of a plethora of games.

Kind of like how true Pokémon games only occur on handhelds and no one has made one for consoles that followed the pure Pokémon experience. Certain limitations accomodate certain types of games.

I would like it if the technology were perpetually advancing on all fronts and developers enacted their own limitations.

Because, of course, if that occurred we would then ask why the limitation was put in place, kind of like the "Why doesn't Diablo have infinite bag space" thread from a few weeks ago.

One day down four to go.

I don't think everyone needs to own a home, I just think it is a poor decision to decide not to. As long as one buys a home that matches their standard of living. Not everyone needs 6 bedroom 4 bath mansions, but it is a better financial decision to buy a home than to rent an apartment of similar size/quality.

Obviously or someone who only makes $35k a year and has no other sources of income, a $500/month apartment is a better option than a $200k house. But is it a better financial decision than a $60k house? one which would only cost $500/month? I think not. I am not a professional economist, obviously, but the pros far outweight the cons in my opinion.

Good ideas.

I am a big fan of pulling tokens out of the inventory.

_J_ said...

Tokens AND Pets.

Now they just need some sort of wardrobe for Soulbound gear.

Or sell bags with more slots.

One thought I had is that maybe they don't want people to be able to carry too much, why is why they've limited bag size.

But if they made a 50 slot bag which could only be used in bank slots?

Problem fucking solved.

Unknown said...

Or if instead of buying bank bag slots, why not just buy new bank tabs with no limit? Just increase the cost at a logarithmic rate?

_J_ said...

Makes sense to me. Have personal banks function in the same way as Guild Banks.

Here's my review of Cuil:

Needless modifications to a functional idea balancing precariously over a shoddy framework.

Little site previews in the search results provide neither content nor utility but rather enact a needless change to google's functional presentation of search results.

_J_ said...

Search "world of warcraft" at cuil.

The images do not necessarily match the pages in a manner that fosters understanding of the page. It's just...a picture from the page. There are no cached pages (which is a feature I adore from google). Presumably those descriptions come from somewhere...

Bleck.

It's not a Lego death star. It's a bunch of little scenes from the Death Star combined into one "spherical" mess.

MA17 hated Bender's Big Score.

I saw about an hour of it last night. It was not as terrible as I expected it to be.

The movie served as a vehicle for jokes from the series to be displayed again. Zoidberg leaves his shell, Bender has a personality change, Leila falls kind of in love, Amy doesn't matter, the professor says "Good News!" a lot.

It's like they put Futurama into a Ronco Food Dehydrator. Bender's Big Score is the shriveled husk of concentrate left after all of the water is gone.

Though, when the Nibblonians attack and the one has to eject with his little pink kitty parachute I laughed and laughed and then laughed a bit more.

Of course, I watched Bender's Big Score after watching Red Zone Cuba. So maybe it was only good by comparison.

I hate writing explanations for things which requires a user to know multiple basic facts when I don't care about the thing. When there is no direct process it's more of a "here is the shit you need to know none of which will be sensible until you understand all of it".
