This is [chat] of a complete breakfast!

The 300 Rifftrax is very good.

So... can you think of an email song this week?

_J_ said...

An email song?

Caleb said...

Does anybody even notice?

_J_ said...

Does anybody even care?

_J_ said...

I like it when people in the office start talking about religion.

_J_ said...

Remember the Root Beer they had at McQuiston's Malthouse?

That was good Root Beer.

_J_ said...

One of the people in the office has a child who said this weekend that the Easter Bunny is not real.

Also, she insisted that scooners are sailboats.

Oh, children.

Also they are apparently learning swear words in school now.

No DLC for Wii Rock Band

Nintendo hates the internet.

Roscoe said...

Dammnit, Jay. Now I can't think of the brand.. and I KNOW the brand!

Oh, damnnit.

now I'm wistful and mourning again.

Caleb said...

mm. Rootbeer.

_J_ said...

Remember how good it was? How they served it in iced, frosty mugs? How they used shaved ice to make sort of a rootbeer slush at the top?

Delicious.

Caleb said...

I think that slush was some of the rootbeer being frozen by the coldness of the mug.

_J_ said...

There was ice in there as well. I don't think that the iced mug had enough heat energy to freeze the rootbeer itself.

Roscoe said...

A good glass frosted mug can totally slush a carbonated drink.

Hell.. my Culver's mug at home could slush the head of a pint of Sam Smiths.

_J_ said...

Thermodynamics

If one has a glass mug which has been in the freezer and pours into that mug a room temperature beverage? There is no way that the mug slushes that beverage.

There is enough energy in the frozen mug to cool the beverage, sure, but there will not be enough energy to both cool the liquid to a freezing temperature AND phase that cooled liquid to a solid.

If one could freeze a mug, pour into that mug room-temperature beverage, and then have that mug slush the beverage? That's about 93% of the way to a perpetual motion machine given that you've found a way to mitigate how transfers of energy work.

_J_ said...

Based on the assumption that we are dealing with a normal glass mug in a normal home freezer.

Unknown said...

Based upon the assumption of a normal freezer you are correct because the mug would only be around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. And also the act of freezing isn't a transfer of energy to the object being frozen but to the contrary it is a transfer of energy from the object being frozen.

A cold mug does contain heat energy because a cold mug is not at absolute zero. The cold mug (under the assumption it is colder than the drink itself) would however be draining energy from said drink to cool it as opposed to passing it's "cold energy".

Roscoe said...

Anecdotal evidence!

Also, are you accounting for a pre-chilled beverage?

i.e. a bottle in a fridge, a mug in the freezer.

_J_ said...

"And also the act of freezing isn't a transfer of energy to the object being frozen but to the contrary it is a transfer of energy from the object being frozen."

That's right. I'm an idiot.

I still don't think that a mug in a home freezer could be cold enough to freeze the beverage therein. Even if the beverage were cooled.

Let's say the mug is 20 and the beverage is 40. The mug would have to take the beverage to at most 32 and also turn the water from liquid to solid.

Man...this has to be on the internet somewhere...

Guy my age at work who is married:
"Jay, wives are expensive. When I was single I always had a little money. Now? None."

And then he lists all of the things he has to pay for.

To which I replied:
"Yeah. Also, I kind of like being able to do whatever the hell I want whenever the hell I want."

To which he replied:
"Yeah. I miss that. I'm hoping that when we have kids I'll see that it was all worth it."

_J_ said...

@Roscoe

That link has nothing to do with beverages freezing in iced mugs.

_J_ said...

Slush Mug

That sort of device could slush a beverage. But it is sort of a portable freezing unit.

A glass mug? Not that.

South Park did an eerily accurate job of mimicking Heavy Metal.

_J_ said...

I saw parts of that last night.

Was there a reason that they were doing Heavy Metal? That is a bit random.

Roscoe said...

It was goddamn wonderful!

Complete with soundtrack.

_J_ said...

Was it about something?

Or was it just "Hey...Heavy Metal!"?

Roscoe said...

The near-dead on parody of the various vignettes, the soundtrack being the original and not the usual fake Stone and Parker pastiches, the tie-in to the stoned-plot.

it's an episode that is much better if you've actually SEEN Heavy Metal.

MA17 said...

I don't know how to answer the "why Heavy Metal" question any better than I think Roscoe did with that it connects with being stoned. That's not a particularly strong argument for having Heavy Metal in the show, certainly there are endless stoner flicks and tropes to pull out and use, but I suspect that Heavy Metal wasn't chosen to support a drug plot, but rather a drug plot was chosen to support doing a Heavy Metal episode.

_J_ said...

I was trying to figure out if anything about March 26, 2008 was related to Heavy Metal.

Maybe they just rented it recently and decided to do an episode about it.

Roscoe said...

Yeah... I dunno.. I put forward elements that made it stand out to me, but those are really why it made such a good Heavy Metal riff, and not a reason to DO such a thing.

But... I gotta say, clearly, it was the bulk of the episode. The Anne Frank riff and the McGreevy/Spitzer/Politician and Wife thing were both minor in comparison and stemmed from the Heavy Metal bits.

_J_ said...

I just got on Realms to ensure that my characters do not expire.

The resolution...it makes my head and eyes hurt. Things are so....so...

shudder

Man, if they released a version of Diablo II with updated graphics, higher resolution, and more indepth character statistics? I'd buy it.

What an awesome fucking game.

I can’t remember anything
can’t tell if this is true or dream
deep down inside I feel to scream
this terrible silence stops me

now that the war is through with me
I’m waking up, I cannot see
that there’s not much left of me
nothing is real but pain now

hold my breath as I wish for death
oh please God, wake me

I recall an easter Sunday at my aunt's house when I was about nine years old. A cousin of mine spent the entire afternoon telling about this song and how awesome it is.

Caleb said...

Also, the easter candy is on 75% off at the walgreens across the street.

_J_ said...

The song is really good until it gets to the diggita-diggita-dum diggita-diggita-dum parts.

Cause it is hard to strum those.

Is it just the chocolate Easter Candy or all of it?

Now that I am mindful of candy sales I've notices that often the chocolate goes on sale and other forms of candy go into storage. Because apparently Nerds keep and chocolate spoils.

Caleb said...

All of it. Though most of the not chocolate/marshmallow egg candy was bought up while still at only 50% off.

Today I decided that I am going to listen to IDM at work all day every day from now on.

_J_ said...

"Intelligent dance music (commonly IDM) is a genre name invented by the creators of an online mailing list..."

Terrific.

Trying to figure out the fastest way to Carmel.

Either 15 to 13 to 37 to Noblesville to a bunch of piddly roads that confuse me to Carmel or 15 to 115 to 24 to 31 to Carmel.

I know the 15 to 13 to 37 route; it's what I took to Hanover. But the 24 to 31 route bypasses those piddle roads that confuse me.

15 to 13 to 37 is more one lane country roads...24 to 31 is more stoplights.

Bar.
