I would much rather guitar hero pursue songs that I enjoy listening to, than songs that are difficult.
If a song I enjoy listening to happens to be difficult, such as Cowboys From Hell and Bark At The Moon, then it is a win/win. But, I get no enjoyment trying to play Psychobilly Freakout, because it is a shitty shitty song.

If you are going to include Rush on your game, make it a song is hella awesome. There are plenty to choose from, and trust me, YYZ does not fall in that list.

Drunk Jay agrees.

There are two aspects of a song that ought to be assessed when including them in a Guitar Hero Game:

Guitarness
Awesomeness

Often awesomeness trumps guitarness, as with GH1. And...

WHY THE FUCK WASN'T FINAL COUNTDOWN ON 80S EDITION?!?!?!

IT'S 80S EDITION!!!!!
IT'S FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!!

COME ON!!

Man, I was really upset about that at the time...

I suspect that Guitar Hero has fallen into the fleet-fingered hands of people who aren't having fun until they're strumming as fast as they can and playing 1/64th note patterns.

Which is great and all, I think they forgot about the unpredictible fret-board wandering Claptons and Vaughans, and have tried to minimize the slower yet still enjoyable melodies like More Than a Feeling.

And if I were going to change the Guitar Hero formula in some way, I'd make it so that instead of the current venue/guitarist/band setup they have now for background visuals, they just let you watch the music video or concert footage as available. Part of what makes some of these songs awesome is the energy of the performance, and watching some 3D model totally do it wrong is wearing thin.

Singstar plays the music video in the background...and...I mostly prefer the 3D fake band thing.

Seeing the Music Video just reinforces how much you aren't actually doing anything but mimicking what someone else can actually do.

yeah... the video thing SOUNDS great, but in actuallity comes out crappy... between paying for the liscening, bizzare shifts in tone and quality from video to video, and simple presentation, it fails.

The animated band/venue set up creates a uniform and unique feel for the game, provides content, and I'd argue that it orignally BROUGHT that energy you were looking for.... look back at GH1.. when you were still getting a feel for the models... and you see Axl pull of his star power spin or that first time you see Grimmy.

Indeed.
